DMV Players Shine In Ohio Showcase

BLACKLICK, OH - Three of the DMV’s top players from the classes of 2023, 2022, and 2021 attended the invitation only Mayhem in the Midwest Ohio Top 20 Showcase event on April 19, 2014. Their invitations were designed to create direct match-ups with some of the best players at their respective positions in the country and in turn directly affect their status on national ranking boards.
The DMV was represented by:

Sarmartine “Fatman” Bogues – Class of 2023 (DMVelite #1)
Chris Winborne – Class of 2022 (DMVelite #3) [Pictured, Right]
Jake Koverman – Class of 201 (DMVelite #15)

Given the national reputation of the DMV as one of the nation’s best regions for basketball; all three players walked into the gym with a target on their backs. Each of them produced when called upon at an elite level, leaving no doubt that the proving grounds of the DMV still produce some the nation’s elite players, even in the youth age group. Starting with a drill session ran by a member of the Ohio Buckeyes coaching staff, each player showed a sample of what they could do in this portion of the event.

When the games started and the lights came on they each got even better; Sarmartine “Fatman” Bogues battled top Ohio guards and impressed the crowd at the Pro Bound Sports Training Center and Complex with his complete game and flair. Bogues averaged 13 points and four assists for the weekend, scoring from beyond the 3-point line, on penetration, and setting up his teammates for easy baskets.

Chris Winborne who is growing into one of the most prolific scorers in the 2022 class played in two age groups leaving it all on the floor and scoring in a variety of ways.  Winborne displayed his three point range, scored off the bounce as well as on the catch and shoot, handled, and rebounded off both boards. His efforts showed to all the scouts in attendance that he was more than just a scorer; rather he was an all-around contributor/player that knows how to help his team win; Chris finished the weekend averaging 14 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

Playing in the 2021 grouping was Jake Koverman who faced an array of size and skill combinations and played and guarded all three front court positions showing his versatility on both ends.   Jake was asked to do a lot during his trip and he stepped up to the task showing versatility and varied skill sets during the course of the weekend.  Often the last line of defense, he showed his defensive prowess over and over, and when looked at to score, he stepped up to the challenge finishing in transition and knocking down shots from the perimeter. He was strong on the glass as well and statistically was a multi-category contributor all event long, averaging 7 points, 7 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game.

BMore's Finest 2021's Winning Nationally

A storm is a brewing in the DC Metropolitan Area in the class of 2021 and is quietly sweeping the country.  BMore’s Finest AAU - which finished Top 20 in the nation and is currently ranked #19 in the AAU National Power Rankings - has been plowing through the competition throughout the country in recent weeks.

Having already captured the Agame Tournament Championship, Finest defeated national power All Ohio Red 53-44 in the All Ohio Red Nike Cup; using a trapping pressure defense to overcome a 3-point halftime deficit.

This team’s strength lies in its versatility; with players who are able to play multiple positions they are able to mix and match line-ups and go to the bench without losing anything. Their depth is among the nation’s best. BMore’s Finest has a line-up that include some of the DMV’s top talent in Ahmad Harrison (DMVelite #4), Rayuan Lane (DMVelite #5), Julian Reese (DMVelite #20), and class of 2022 members Chris Winborne (DMVelite #3) and Bryce Lindsay (DMVelite #8), and motor past the competition on a regular basis.

Last year, this squad was poised to make a run to the Sweet 16 but suffered injuries to two of their starters.  During the off season they added depth by bringing over Reese and Lane from local rival and nationally-ranked Baltimore Stars (national rank #13 -now Baltimore Elite) serving two purposes – strengthening their current roster and dealing a tough blow to their primary Maryland State nemesis. Their recent showing against other national powers at this early juncture bodes well for the future and a potential national championship run this summer.  Their first step on this mission takes place April 25th – April 27th in the Maryland State Regional Qualifier.
