This Is Not A Test, We Repeat This is Not a Test: The Price is now with Moore

Breaking news in the DMV and more specifically in the WCAC; Marvin Price previously committed to Poly HS has made an 11th hour change and will be attending the storied Dematha program in Hyattsville, Md. with top prospect Justin Moore.  In what very well may be the surprise of the summer the move changes the entire landscape of recruiting for the class of 2019 in the conference and reveals a growing trend that has “DC/PG” players heading north and vice-versa.

The majority of the top rated players in 2020 hail from the northern part of the DMV; specifically many of them coming from the same area as Marvin Price- Baltimore; these players are is being heavily recruited by the powerful WCAC and the BCL and MIAA will have to make a hard push to keep them at home with some of the offerings being put on the table.  Having already lost a stable full of talent in the past 6-moths Baltimore schools will be working overtime to keep these players from heading down the beltway to arguably one of the best conferences in the country. 

Appearing this weekend as teammates in the Coach Francis Classic the DMV got an early look at what the future may hold; as their All-Star squad Team Downtown won in impressive fashion.
  

As these two young stars complete their formal MS careers and move onto high school what exactly did the Stags get in these two studs?

Justin Moore:  Is a true shooting guard with a terrific offensive feel and knack for scoring but watching very closely his development in recent months you are seeing a lot of improvement with respect to changing speeds, spacing, and passing reads and trajectory DO NOT BE SURPRISED to see Moore being groomed as a future lead guard.  A position where we believe he can ultimately excel at, at a very high level  – and consequently to reach the level we believe he can and wants to; those places don’t have 6’2/6’3 shooting guards. In the recent Coach Francis Classic Moore showed more explosion and quickness than we have ever seen and he likely wasn’t going full bore given the setting.  Evident by a drive to the rim, single footed, two handed dunk that had a little power behind it Moore is reshaping himself likely due to one of the best strength and conditioning programs in the country over there with the Red, White, & Blue.  Moore also showed against the best in the area that he can get to the rim on the break and on straight line drives in the half court set where he is as crafty a finisher as you will find. Moore has a smooth mid-range pull up jumper and he can also knock down the three.  He is willing defender and has excellent core strength with the added quickness he will excel on that end of the court as well.

Marvin Price: Put Price into this same institution and training environment; with Moore moving up a number is makes sense to groom the Baltimore native as a two-guard; exactly what the Price camp wants for the young man.  Price who always plays the game with an excellent motor that allows him to compete with great energy - He is an above the rim finisher now on the break and in the half-court; he attacks the glass on both ends especially offensively and his unselfish nature, IQ, and team mindset has him playing the game the right way in every setting we see him in.  Price could score 20-points every time he steps onto the floor at the 8th and 9th grade level now; but he is dedicated to making the right pass and the right play and between the two programs and coaches he has played for in the past year he has proved that he can play within structure.  We liken Price to recent Virginia Tech recruit Chris Clarke, who stands 6’5 – as Price can play the two, the small forward, as well as a undersized power forward due to this strength, rebounding ability, and athleticism in a four guard lineup.

If the performance in the Coach Francis Classic is any indicator of future performance things are looking very bright for Mike Jones and company and with both anticipated to be on the varsity immediately we may see it sooner than later; as the current Stag roster will be blowing out its fair share of teams to allow the young fellas some excellent experience immediately.

DMV Domination Continues in Hot-Lanta at Exclusive Under Armour Best of the Best Camp

Atlanta, Ga. -  In an impressive show of power this past weekend the DMV loaded up a van and headed to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Under Amour Best of Best Camp – the invitation only event consisted of a virtual whose of who in the area.  The common theme for those receiving invites?  Their games translate and they look to be next level ready either physically and/or mentally.

 

The size and length rolling out of the DMV was phenomenal and consisted of what has previously been documented as the area’s top up and coming high school prospects.  This exclusive event  attracted 125 of the top middle school players not only from this area but from across the country; as they battled for a spot in the UA Middle School Elite 24 game to be held under the Brooklyn Bridge on August 22, 2015. 

Six of the seven players in attendance made the events Top 20 game and Karim Couliby received the dual honor or being name as the camps and the All-Star games  M.V.P.  In attendance at the event where the following players from the DMV:

*Karim Coulibly, (6’8, New World): Did yeoman’s work on the low block, showed an exceptional motor; no one played harder, rebounded well against like size.  Showed he wasn’t afraid to get physical – finished well and displayed a phenomenal skill set even putting the ball the floor on several occasion but was at his very best finding and hitting the outlet man and then filling the lane.  Above average passing skills also highlighted his dual MVP weekend.

*Marvin Price, (6’4, Team Melo)  –  Price had a great weekend and continued to solidify his national stock; he easily could have walked away with M.V.P honors, he too was one of the hardest workers in the camp, finished almost everything , and was unstoppable getting to the tin.  His jump shot was falling all weekend long and he did it at all levels as a man amongst boys.  As an added bonus Price showed some serious bounce competing in the camp slam dunk contest were he finished second in a controversial decision.  When the jumper is falling he is one of the toughest covers in the 2019 class.

*Terrance Williams, (6’6, Team Takeover) – Williams as always saves his best performance for the big game; while he was solid all weekend he  lit up the All-Star game, where he may not have missed a single shot going for a double-double in the contest.  He knocked the trey-ball down consistently during the weekend, as well as hitting the mid-range shot, and even threw down a dunk with authority.  Williams as always showed he is an excellent passer whose best attribute as a player may be his patience and IQ.  You are beginning to see the wing skills start to develop and they look true to his nickname “Big Smooth” as he shook a few people on his way to the basket.

*Che Evans, (6’5, Team Melo)  - Knocked the socks off everyone in the gym on day one with his versatility, got to the spots he wanted at will, the jump shot looked vastly improved and scouts say he is a jumper away from being unstoppable.  He is very creative with the ball and showed a strong handle, made the right pass and the right play and made an impact in multiple categories.  He rebounded his position and showed a great motor.  He walked away from the event as clearly one of the top 2020 wings in the country his defensive ability and shot blocking skills were also impressive – a special note was given that the dunk package was also impressive.

*Jason Murphy, (6’8, Team Melo) – Didn’t give up on a single play the entire weekend – plays the game 94-feet and buzzer to buzzer – not a skill that can be taught. Murphy tries to dunk everything and you can see the long term benefit of this mindset in his play.  Dominated both glasses, kept the ball high, and played a true post game playing to his strengths and looked good doing it - he is tough as nails and plays with passion – is an excellent shot blocker and lane filler.  Scored exceptionally well around the basket and you can see future stardom with this kid easily.

*Isaiah Todd, (6’8, Team Silk) – His catch and shoot game looked excellent from all over the floor, showed solid mechanics – needs very little adjustments and simply requires reps to what is already becoming an exceptional strength.  He is now pushing 6’8/6’9 and his versatility is very apparent; a young 13, he can guard any front court position on the floor and made impact on the defensive end and on the boards.  The handle only requires confidence but showed tools and a complete package in the drill sessions.

Tyler Brelsford, (5’8, Team Melo) – Showed great awareness and court vision, knocked down the mid-range pull-up throughout; played the game the right way making the right pass and decision.  Finished well in the paint against size and competed on the defensive end using positional defense to stymie his opponent – made the players around him better and went to the floater when necessary.  Didn’t shoot many threes in game situations but knocked them down during skills and drills showing the shooting prowess he is becoming known for.  

8 Eye's Future Classic All Star Game Impacted By The Presence of the DMV's Sensational 6

The 8 Eye Future Classic returned for its second rendition of its annual All-Star game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  The event thrown by up and coming media guru Jamie Boyer featured in his inaugural event big names such as Nazreon Reid, Cameron Reddish, and Luther Muhammad. 

This year’s Boyer again put on a top notch and competitive event; featuring some of the top talent in the upper north east – accordingly the DMV was well represented throughout the roster and the locals represented well as they always do when tested on the hardwood.

DMV Preps would like to congratulate the following players not only for their selection but for their excellent performance.

Jordan Toles (Team Melo/Terror Squad) – Toles put on a stellar performance in route to taking home the MVP award for this squad; he finished the day with 21-points, 8-rebounds, & 3- Assist 

Cameron Byers (Team Melo/Terror Squad) –

A very clear pattern of success is being laid here; as Byers continues to achieve on a high level regardless of the situation.  Cameron put up solid numbers while carrying his team for stretches he tallied 14- points and 7-rebounds

Zion Harmon (Team Melo/Terror Squad) –

The only 6^th grader in the event Harmon shook off a sluggish start to jump start his team comeback run; he again showed that he is built for events such as this – he end the day with 12-points and 7 Helpers 

James Bishop (Bmore’s Finest) -

“Buckets” Bishop found his spots and took advantage of them; he probed the perimeter and sliced through the lane making some tough buckets; he impressed with his ball-handling as well as his passing

Marvin Price (DC Premier) –

Price showed the array of skill that has made him a local star; he put the ball on the floor, he knocked it down from distance and finished in traffic getting to the line where he sealed the deal as per usual 

Johnathan McGriff (Team Takeover) –

The magician showed off the ball-handling he has been known for, preferred to set up rather than get shots up.  He got to where he wanted to on the court and showed solid vision in making things happen for his squad
